Saleh, Coen resolve sign-stealing clash as AFC South foes
Robert Saleh declared his dispute with Liam Coen over sign-stealing accusations resolved. The Tennessee Titans head coach, formerly the San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator, described the matter as "water under the bridge" during the NFL's annual league meetings this week. Coen, head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, agreed that mutual respect now prevails.
The tension arose before the 49ers' Week 4 loss to the Jaguars last season. Saleh praised Coen's staff for their legal "advanced signal-stealing type system" that positioned them advantageously. After the game, Coen shouted at Saleh to "keep my name out of your mouth," prompting Saleh to shout back; Saleh later called it a misspoken compliment.
Saleh reiterated at the meetings his appreciation for Coen and clarified using the wrong word in his attempted praise. Coen stated that coaches respect each other's methods. Saleh took the Titans job in January, placing the pair in the AFC South division.
The coaches now face off as divisional rivals in the NFL's American Football Conference South.
